Orion StarMax 90 Mak-Cass Telescope & Planetary Kit

Orion StarMax 90 Mak-Cass Telescope & Planetary Kit Reviews

Orion StarMax 90 Mak-Cass Telescope & Planetary Kit Feature

  • This thorough telescope and accessory kit is outfitted for planetary viewing perfection at a vlaue price
  • Long 1250mm focal length Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope with 90mm aperture provides plenty of magnification ability in a compact, tabletop package
  • Included Color Filter Set enhances landscape details and cloudy features on the bright visible planets
  • Included 7.5mm Sirius Plossl 1.25" eyepiece provides a high magnification view, with pleasing 52 degrees apparent field-of-view
  • Included Shorty 2x Barlow Lens adds versatility by doubling the magnification of each eyepiece in your collection, also includes Starry Night astronomy software
Whoever coined the phrase "big things come in small packages", would have definitely applied that expression to our new StarMax 90 TableTop Refractor. This ultra-compact Mak-Cass gives surprisingly big views for an instrument of its modest size, making it an elegant first telescope or a great grab-and-go second telescope! The long, 1250mm (f/13.8) focal length gives the StarMax 90 TableTop some serious magnifying power - the included 25mm and 10mm 1.25-inch Super 3-element eyepieces yield powers of 50x and 125x, respectively. It collects over 25% more light than its GoScope 80 cousin, and up to 225% more light than a 60mm refractor telescope. So you'll be able to enjoy planetary delights such as lunar landscapes, Saturn's rings and Jupiter's moons. As you scan the Milky Way, you'll also be able to pull in some open and globular star clusters, as well as a nebula or two. The tube assembly of the StarMax 90mm TableTop Refractor Telescope is attached to a stable swivel base, via a quick-release dovetail mount with adjustable altitude tension. The tube can easily be removed from the base and mounted on an optional photo tripod. The small swivel base itself can also be mounted on a camera tripod with a 3/8-inch screw.

Astro Tech 110mm Ring Set for Vixen Style Dovetail, Black ATVR110

Astro Tech 110mm Ring Set for Vixen Style Dovetail, Black ATVR110 Reviews

Other Picture

Astro Tech ATVR110

This Astro-Tech 110mm finderscope/photoguide ring set allows you to mount an 80mm to 100mm refractor optical tube on an optional Vixen-style dovetail plate that has been installed piggyback on a larger telescope. The set lets you use the small refractor as a high power/variable power finderscope for your larger telescope; as a photoguide scope for long exposure deep sky photography; or as a wide field astrograph that is guided through the main scope.

The Astro-Tech 110mm ring set consists of two 110mm i.d. rings mounted on Astro-Tech #ATVA Vixen-style dovetail adapters. A single hand-tighten knob clamps each Astro-Tech #ATVA adapter firmly in place on your Vixen-style dovetail, but allows the rings to be quickly repositioned along the dovetail so you can balance your smaller scope fore and aft as needed with no tools required.

There are three hand-tighten adjustment screws with non-marring Delrin tips in each ring. These allow you to collimate the small refractor with the main scope optics when it is used as a finderscope, or to aim the refractor off-axis to locate an appropriate guide star or photographic target when it is used as a photoguide or astrograph.

The rings have a nominal 110mm (4.33") internal diameter and will hold small refractor optical tubes with an o.d. of 80mm to 100mm. This size range allows the small refractor to be collimated with the main scope (if the refractor is being used as a finderscope), while still allowing for a reasonable amount of off-axis aiming to find a guide star (if the refractor is being used as a photoguide).

The larger the o.d. of your small refractor, however, the less off-axis aiming capability you will have for guiding. If your small refractor has an o.d. close to 100mm, you might be best served by going to the next larger guidescope ring size (125mm) to give you more off-axis aiming capability and t

Televue Starbeam SCT Base w/ Flip Mirror

Televue Starbeam SCT Base w/ Flip Mirror Reviews

Other Picture

Starbeam's unique flip mirror feature provides comfort and flexibility for viewing straight through and 90°. Viewed straight through, you see the natural sky with a 10 arc-minute (1/3 Moon dia.) "red-star" showing your scope's position. When your scope is pointed high, flip the mirror into position for more comfortable viewing. The size, color and adjustable brightness of the "red-star" makes it easy to see against any twilight to dark sky background. With its 39mm aperture, the projected image is easily seen any distance behind Starbeam, whether 2 inches or 2 feet! The finely made glass lens acts as a beamsplitter to combine the natural sky background with the superimposed red pointing "star." The first lens surface acts as a collimating mirror so the "red-star" stays stationary against the sky background regardless of your eye position. A compensating curve is designed into the second lens surface to provide the normal sky background view and is multi-coated to eliminate double images.Elegant in design and form, Starbeam is custom machined completely from aluminum and then black anodized, even down to the "push-pull" thumb screws. No tools are required to align Starbeam with your telescope. This new Starbeam model has a dovetail bar and mounting bracket that fits the rear cell of any 8" or larger SCT. The bar and bracket are also sold separately so any Starbeam owner can adapt the uniquely accurate, large aperture

Orion SkyQuest XT10g Computerized GoTo Dobsonian Telescope Feature

  • Fully motorized GoTo Dobsonian reflector telescope locates, centers, and automatically tracks any of 42,000 celestial objects with pushbutton ease!
  • Big 10-inch aperture reflector optics gathers plenty of light for pleasing views of galaxies, nebulas, and star clusters as well as bright close-up study of the planets and Moon
  • Computerized GoTo motors, encoders, and gears come pre-installed on the Dobsonian base for easy assembly
  • Requires 12V power supply (sold seperately) for motorized operation
  • Includes 2-inch dual-speed (11:1) Crayford focuser, 28mm 2-inch DeepView eyepiece, 12.5mm 1.25-inch illuminated crosshair Plossl eyepiece, EZ Finder II reflex sight, eyepiece rack, collimation cap, and Starry Night software
Orion Dobsonians have always been known for superb optical and mechanical quality, wonderful ease of use, and remarkably affordable prices. One other thing they - and almost all other Dobs on the market - have had in common: you pushed the telescope to your observing target by hand. Until now. Orion is pleased to herald another giant leap in Dobsonian evolution with the introduction of the SkyQuest XTg series of fully motor driven GoTo Dobsonians. Now, pointing a Dob to even the most elusive of NGC curiosities is as easy as pushing a button or two on the XTg Dobsonians' illuminated hand controller. High-torque servo motors guided by two pairs of high-resolution encoders then slew the telescope right to your object of interest - any of over 42,000 objects in the GoTo controller's database. No more nudging the telescope tube continuously to keep the object from drifting out of the field of view, either. The XTg automatically tracks the object's motion, keeping it centered in the eyepiece while you savor the view. What's more, the closed-loop electronics of the XTg let you move the telescope manually - or endure the accidental bump - without losing orientation for accurate, automated GoTo pointing!

Orion VersaGo II Altazimuth Telescope Mount

Orion VersaGo II Altazimuth Telescope Mount Reviews

Other Picture

Orion VersaGo II Altazimuth Telescope Mount Feature

  • Ultra-stable, easy-to-operate altazimuth "grab-and-go" tripod for small to medium sized telescopes
  • The VersaGo II's 15 lb. load capacity makes it an excellent Alt-Az foundation for telescopes up to about 6" in aperture
  • Strong but lightweight aluminum channel-leg tripod with removable accessory tray allows maximum portability and adjustable height
  • Sturdy die-cast aluminum head features a dovetail saddle for quick telescope attachment and removal
  • Slanted arm design allows instrument to be pointed to zenith, lateral arm offset puts load directly over center of tripod for maximum stability
Here's a nifty mount that will make navigating landscapes or starscapes with any modestly sized telescope a truly enjoyable experience. The VersaGo II Altazimuth mount combines a simple, sturdy design with lightweight "grab-and-go" portability - all at a highly affordable price. The VersaGo II differs from the heavier VersaGo II HD in having a lighter weight tripod (13 lbs.) that features aluminum channel-type legs that adjust in height. While both mounts can technically support the same 15 lb. load, the standard model, which weighs 5.5 lbs. less, is preferred when maximum portability is desired. The mount features a sturdy, die-cast metal single-arm altazimuth head that allows simple and intuitive up-down, left-right operation. Teflon thrust bearings on both axes ensure smooth, fluid gliding motion and oversize tensioning knobs and a rubber grip panning handle provide extremely fine positioning and control, even for tracking moving subjects. Because the laterally offset mounting arm places the telescope center of gravity over the center of the tripod and not off to the side, the VersaGo II offers maximum stability for spotting scopes, small astronomical refractors up to 120mm, Cassegrains and short reflectors up to 6" in aperture, or DSLR and video cameras. No counterweights are needed. The slanted arm design allows telescopes to point directly to the zenith. A dovetail saddle allows quick mounting and removal of your telescope.

Baader Planetarium Semi-APO Filter 2" FSAPO-2

Baader Planetarium Semi-APO Filter 2" FSAPO-2 Reviews

Baader Planetarium Semi-APO Filter 2" FSAPO-2 Feature

  • Baader Planetarium Semi APO Filter combines the Baader Fringe Killer coating formula with the Baade
  • Zero image degradation
  • Famous Baader Quality
  • Works as a great Mars filter

Baader Planetarium Semi APO Filter 2"

The Baader Semi APO filter is a truly innovative product unique to Baader Planetarium. Founded by combining properties from two of their most popular filters the Baader Planetarium Semi APO Filter is a truly effective tool in fighting false color.

Baader's newest addition for Achromat owners. The Semi-APO works like it's name implies - delivering an amazingly neutral view, while cutting most of the annoying and contrast-robbing violet fringe that plagues all achromats. The Semi-APO filter combines a stronger Fringe Killer coating formula with the Moon&Skyglow Neodymium substrate. The result is similar performance to the Fringe Killer + Moon&Skyglow combination, but with a slightly stronger violet cut - and at an even greater value.

The Semi-APO filter benefits from all the host of world-class Baader filter attributes. The Semi-APO filter is truly the world's most advanced 'minus-violet' type filter in every regard. It's high efficiency and neutral coloration make it practically disappear in use - while making most of the violet fringe disappear! The effects on sharpness, contrast, and aesthetics are remarkable, even with small refractors. The RGB enhancement of the Neodymium substrate actually boosts color contrasts, particularly for Jupiter and Mars.

As a side benefit, the Semi-APO filter has also proven to be the best Mars filter we've used - with ALL Telescopes, including large Dobsonians, SCTs, and Apochromats. The unique properties that result from the combination of the Fringe Killer's blue wavelength attenuation (attenuation - not total elimination), plus the selective Neodymium RGB passbands, result in a significant contrast enhancement of Martian features. The image retains its natural coloration and brightness, and the optically polished surfaces maintain every bit of the image sharpness, unlike other manufacturer's filters.&
